Included with your course, Toby provides the free service of turning your test site into a full domain name. This is typically done by Toby in batches every week or two, depending on demand. If you would like your site to be included in the showcase (good for your SEO), please provide feedback on the course here (good or bad!) prior to the application below. Then, in order to apply or "map" your chosen domain name to your test site, you must...Buy -- or already own -- the domain name you want. I highly recommend TSO Host for domain names for various reasons: value for money, ease of use, good customer service, support, etc. However, any domain registrar will work, except for Heart Internet (AVOID! *See full explanation below, if you need it*)Login to the domain name registrar and change your domain nameservers as instructed below. Your domain registrar should make editing nameservers clear and easy to do, by visiting e.g. "Domains" / "DNS Settings" / "Nameservers" / "Namesever Management") but if they do not, you can contact your domain registrar for assistance with this.Fill in the form below. Only fill in the form below once and only submit ONE site for mapping. Additional sites can be bought for £25 here. Be sure to follow instructions carefully - if you do not point the nameservers correctly, change your mind as to which domain name you want, or misspell it in the form below, Toby may have to charge a small admin fee to cover the additional time taken to resolve this - typically no more than £15.The site you built on the course is on its own web hosting account with your own new WordPress installation where you install all themes and plugins yourself. The URL contains an IP address such as "18.104.22.168" and MAY also contain "wpcourses##.co", where ## are numbers. You can install your own plugins/themes, edit CSS/PHP code and setup email accounts as you wish. You have unlimited bandwidth and unlimited disk space. You are responsible for managing the WordPress installation and any updates, as well as keeping the site secure and stable by e.g. only installing plugins/themes you checked in accordance with the advice in the course notes. Be sure never to edit the site URL's in Settings>General as this will make the site disappear! You should have the Genesis theme framework and a child theme installed already from the basic course and you get many more of the best and most popular Genesis child themes upon attending the advanced course, then taught how to configure them. Or your chosen themes can be installed and configured as part of a phone consultation.STEP 1. Point your domain nameserversThis stage is done by you and is vital, so please make sure you complete this. If you have any problems, contact Toby.To apply your domain name to your site, you must first login to your domain name registrar and change the 1st (primary) nameservers to ns.mainnameserver.com and 2nd (secondary) nameservers to ns2.mainnameserver.com. Any other nameservers listed there must be removed/cleared/deleted.NB: If you already have a website or emails running on this domain name, please contact Toby, as these will stop working when you point your nameservers to me. I can advise on how to keep downtime to a minimum, by my doing the mapping first, then you pointing the nameservers by arrangement. STEP 2. Complete this formYour Name * Your Email * Phone Domain name you have bought (e.g. example.com) URL of WordPress test site used on course (e.g. http://22.214.171.124/wpcourses123.co/ ) Login details of your WordPress site as used on the course (you have your own record of this). Be certain to double check these are correct by logging in to your WordPress dashboard using the URL you just entered above followed by "wp-admin" (e.g. http://126.96.36.199/wpcourses123.co/wp-admin ) Tick to confirm you have pointed the nameservers of your domain as directed above: logging into your domain registrar and changing the 1st (primary) nameservers to ns.mainnameserver.com and 2nd (secondary) nameservers to ns2.mainnameserver.comIt can take 24-48 hours for the nameservers to propagate before the site is ready. You can only submit one domain for mappingToby will confirm by email when your domain has been mapped, typically the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. As long as this is 24-48 hours after you pointed your nameservers, your site will be working. Visit your site to check and once ready, go to the login page. This login page is your domain name followed by /wp-login.php (e.g. "example.com/wp-login.php"). Login with same username and password you were given for the course in the "New WordPress Site" email. In some cases, you may need to re-upload or re-assign images and any manually entered HTML links (such as in the footer) from the test site, with the new domain name once mapped.Toby may link to your website from WP Courses/WP Consultant, by featuring your site in the showcases, testimonials or portfolio. Toby may also place a small reciprocal link in your site's footer. Your ranking in Google will be boosted by this free link exchange. To move your all your content (pages, posts, menus, etc) from one WordPress site to another, go to Tools>Export and download the old site, then go to Tools>Import in the new site (installing the required plugin, if needed) and upload the content there. You get free hosting for 12 months from the date you did the course. You will only be charged for hosting during the second year at £8/month, billed annually or biennially, unless you wish to cancel your hosting, in which case you are under no obligation to continue, provided you email Toby to cancel during the first year. Tick to confirm you understand and accept*[recaptcha] Steps 3 through to Step 12 are all done for you by Toby! *Why can't the domain name be registered with Heart Internet?* I host your site on my Heart Internet "Reseller Account". If you buy your domain name from them, it will be under a separate account, so your site cannot be hosted on my account. Heart Internet are unable to run a site's domain on one Heart account but run the same site's hosting on another account - it's annoying but that's just the way it is. The only way round this would be if you transfer your Heart domain to my Heart account: far from ideal as it is time-consuming, costly and delays everything!
